Calculator Inputs
This page uses a single main content column, while the form fields adapt to three columns on large screens, two on tablets, and one on mobile.
Example Data Table
These sample scenarios show how the calculator interprets different academic recovery paths.
| Scenario | Current Avg | Completed Weight | Remaining Weight | Target Final | Expected Future Avg | Required Future Avg |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steady recovery | 78% | 65% | 35% | 85% | 90% | 98.00% |
| Comfortable path | 84% | 70% | 30% | 86% | 90% | 90.67% |
| Target already secured | 95% | 92% | 8% | 87% | 70% | 0.00% |
Formula Used
Current contribution = Current average × Completed weight ÷ 100
Projected final = Current contribution + (Expected remaining average × Remaining weight ÷ 100) + Extra credit
Required remaining average = (Target final grade − Current contribution − Extra credit) ÷ (Remaining weight ÷ 100)
Highest possible final = Current contribution + (Maximum remaining average × Remaining weight ÷ 100) + Extra credit
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter your current course average based on completed work.

- Set the final grade you want to finish with.
- Add your expected future average to see a realistic projection.
- Set a maximum remaining average to test your best-case ceiling.
- Include extra credit if your instructor offers bonus points.
- Adjust custom letter-grade cutoffs if your course uses a different scale.

FAQs
1. What does this calculator estimate?
It estimates the average score you need on remaining coursework to reach a chosen final grade. It also shows projected outcomes, best-case limits, and whether your goal is still realistic.
2. Why must completed and remaining weights total 100?
Course grades are usually weighted across all assessments. If the two weights do not add to 100, the final-grade math becomes distorted and the required remaining average will be misleading.
3. Can I include extra credit?
Yes. Enter expected bonus points in the extra-credit field. The calculator adds them directly to the final course total, which can lower the average you need on remaining work.
4. What if the required average is above 100?
That usually means the target is unattainable under normal grading. Check whether extra credit, curved grading, or a higher score cap is possible. Otherwise, lower the target or focus on the best achievable outcome.
5. Why is my required average zero?
A zero result means your existing banked points already cover the target. In practical terms, you no longer need additional points to finish at or above that selected final grade.
6. Does the expected remaining average change the required score?
No. The required score depends on your current standing, target grade, remaining weight, and extra credit. The expected average only helps project a likely final result for planning.
7. Can I use custom letter-grade cutoffs?
Yes. Adjust the A, B, C, and D thresholds to match your school, course, or instructor policy. The calculator then applies those cutoffs when labeling projected and maximum outcomes.
8. Is this useful for exam planning?
Yes. By pairing remaining weight with the number of assessments left, you can estimate how strong each future performance must be and decide where extra study effort matters most.
