Formula Used

Assessment Percentage = (Score Earned ÷ Maximum Marks) × 100

Weighted Contribution = Assessment Percentage × (Weight ÷ 100)

Current Coursework Average = Sum of included (Assessment Percentage × Weight) ÷ Sum of included Weights

Projected Overall Grade = [Sum of included (Assessment Percentage × Weight) + (Final Percentage × Final Weight)] ÷ 100 + Extra Credit

Required Final Percentage = {[(Target Grade − Extra Credit) × 100] − Sum of coursework weighted percentages} ÷ Final Weight

If drop-lowest is enabled, the coursework item with the smallest percentage is removed before summing the weighted results.

FAQs

1. Can this calculator handle weighted courses?

Yes. Each assessment accepts its own weight. The calculator multiplies each percentage by its weight and combines them into a weighted overall result.

2. What happens if my weights do not add to 100%?

The tool still calculates the result, but it shows a warning. Most complete course grading systems total 100%, so you should verify the policy before final decisions.

3. Can I use it before taking the final exam?

Yes. Leave the final score blank and keep the final weight. The calculator will estimate the score you need on the final to reach a target or passing grade.

4. Does extra credit change the final requirement?

Yes. Extra credit is added after weighted grade points are combined, so it can lower the percentage you need on the final exam.

5. How does the drop-lowest option work?

It removes the coursework item with the smallest percentage from the weighted coursework calculation. This does not automatically remove the final exam.

6. What grading scales are included?

The calculator includes a standard A–F scale and a plus/minus scale. Both options also return estimated GPA points for quick academic interpretation.

7. Can I export the results for records?

Yes. The report section supports CSV export for spreadsheet work and PDF export for printing, sharing, or digital recordkeeping.

8. Is this useful for teachers and students?

Yes. Students can track progress and target grades, while teachers can test weighting scenarios, review distributions, and produce neat course reports.
