Formula Used

Total-based overall percentage
Adjusted Obtained = Total Obtained + Bonus − Penalty
Overall % = (Adjusted Obtained ÷ Total Maximum) × 100
Weighted percentage (credits)
Subject % = (Obtained ÷ Maximum) × 100
Weighted % = Σ(Subject % × Weight) ÷ Σ(Weight)
Drop lowest option
If enabled, the calculator sorts included subjects by Subject % and removes the lowest N subjects from totals and weighted calculations.

FAQs

1) What is an overall percentage?

It is the ratio of your total obtained marks to total maximum marks, multiplied by 100. It summarizes performance across subjects into one number.

2) When should I use weighted percentage?

Use it when subjects carry different credits or importance. The calculator multiplies each subject’s percentage by its weight and then averages by total weight.

3) What does “drop lowest” mean?

If enabled, the lowest subject percentages are excluded from calculations. This can model policies where the weakest subject or quiz is removed from final scoring.

4) Can obtained marks be higher than maximum?

Sometimes extra credit makes this possible. The calculator allows it, but shows a warning so you can confirm the numbers are intentional and accurate.

5) How do bonus and penalty marks affect results?

Bonus marks are added to the final obtained total, while penalty marks are subtracted. If the adjusted obtained total becomes negative, it is clamped to zero.

6) How is the letter grade decided?

You can use a standard A–F scale or custom cutoffs. The chosen result percentage is compared against the cutoffs to assign the grade.

7) What is target planning used for?

If you enter a target percentage and remaining maximum marks, the calculator estimates how many additional obtained marks you need to reach that overall target.

8) What do the downloads include?

CSV contains structured rows for totals, selected percentage, grade, and subjects. PDF provides a clean, printable summary including totals, grade, optional target planning, and subject lines.
