Calculate battery runtime accurately today. Estimate Ah, current draw, and efficiency.
Calculating how long a battery will last under a specific electrical load is a fundamental task for engineers, hobbyists, and renewable energy designers. When working with specialized power storage units like a 2 Amp-hour (Ah) battery, precision matters significantly. Small power draws can behave very differently from heavy continuous loads due to internal chemistry limitations, thermal constraints, and Peukert's law effects.
The baseline calculation uses the core relationship between electrical capacity, current draw, and time:
$$Time (Hours) = \frac{Capacity (Ah) \times DoD \times Efficiency}{Current Draw (A)}$$
When incorporating advanced factors such as temperature coefficients and battery aging, the usable capacity is scaled down accordingly to yield a realistic operational timeframe.
