Designing a commercial distributed audio network requires careful calculation of speaker power distribution. Unlike low-impedance 4-ohm or 8-ohm systems, 70-volt systems utilize step-down transformers at each speaker location. This allows installers to wire multiple speakers in a daisy-chain configuration over long distances using thin gauge wires without suffering massive signal attenuation.
The total required amplifier power is calculated by summing the power consumption of all individual speaker taps, factoring in cable power dissipation, applying an operational safety headroom percentage, and dividing by the thermal efficiency coefficient of the amplifier module:
