Understanding Electrical Steel Coil Outer Diameter Calculations
In electrical manufacturing, transformer cores and motor stator laminations require precise specifications. Calculating the outer diameter (OD) accurately ensures proper material handling, storage logistics, and compatibility with decoiler machinery.
Formula Used
The calculation relies on mass conservation and geometric cylindrical volume equations. First, the total volume ($V$) of the steel is derived using the weight and material density:
$$V = \frac{\text{Weight}}{\text{Density} \times \text{Safety Factor}}$$
Next, the cross-sectional area is determined by dividing the volume by the strip width. Using the inner diameter ($ID$) and accounting for interleaving layers, the outer diameter ($OD$) is computed precisely using standard geometric circle expansion formulas.
How to Use This Calculator
- Input Core Details: Enter your inner core diameter and total net coil weight into the primary column.
- Specify Material Metrics: Input individual sheet thickness, strip width, and the specific density of your electrical steel grade.
- Fine-tune Advanced Options: Adjust wrapping parameters or air gap factors for high accuracy, then press the submit button.
