Understanding Lithium Polymer (LiPo) Batteries
Lithium Polymer batteries power countless modern electrical applications, ranging from high-performance radio-controlled drones and electric vehicles to portable consumer electronics. Understanding how charge and discharge cycles affect battery performance, thermal stability, and lifespan is essential for safe, efficient engineering and operation.
Importance of C-Ratings and Voltage Sag
The C-rating of a LiPo battery determines how fast it can safely discharge or charge without sustaining internal damage or overheating. When high loads are drawn, internal resistance causes an immediate drop in terminal voltage known as voltage sag. Managing this sag ensures that connected ESCs or motors do not experience sudden low-voltage cutoff events under heavy acceleration.
