Calculate neutral current parameters effortlessly now.
Zigzag transformers are specialized grounding transformers widely used in three-phase power systems to create an artificial neutral point. This enables the grounding of ungrounded systems and provides a low-impedance path for zero-sequence currents resulting from line-to-ground faults or severe phase unbalances. Protecting these transformers requires precise calculation of neutral currents, factoring in both load unbalance conditions and cumulative triple-n harmonic currents.
The base phase current ($I_{phase}$) is derived using the formula:
$$I_{phase} = \frac{S}{\sqrt{3} \times V_{LL}}$$
Where $S$ is the rated apparent power in VA and $V_{LL}$ is the line-to-line voltage. The total neutral current incorporates root-sum-square combinations of unbalance and zero-sequence harmonic currents.
