Methodology & Limitations

This playful calculator adapts the famous Drake-style multiplicative model to dating. We estimate your annual exposure (Ew × 52) and multiply by stage probabilities: within-window, single, positive impression, approach, response, first-date acceptance, second-date conversion, going exclusive, and relationship survival at 3 and 12 months.

The deterministic result is a point estimate. The Monte Carlo mode samples each probability from a beta distribution centered on your chosen rate with a concentration set by the confidence width. We compute the implied probability of achieving at least one exclusive relationship in 12 months and the distribution of time to first success under a geometric approximation (weeks ≈ 1 / (Ew × p_path)).

Limitations: Human relationships are complex; inputs may be biased; stages aren’t perfectly independent; real life has feedback loops (learning, network effects, algorithmic matching). Treat results as directional, then iterate on high-leverage inputs highlighted in the sensitivity chart.

FAQ

It’s an educational toy model to reason about funnels and probabilities. It’s not destiny; use it for insights and goal-setting, not predictions.

It controls variance during simulation. Wider = more spread. Technically, we lower the beta concentration parameter so samples vary farther from your point estimate.

Exposure per week and approach/response rates often dominate. The sensitivity chart shows your specific leverage points.

Increase weekly exposure, craft better first messages, refine photos/profiles, widen reasonable filters, and protect time for follow‑through on promising matches.

A mutually agreed exclusive relationship. You can adjust the exclusivity and survival rates to match your norms.
