Safety note
Flame tools can ignite mulch and dry weeds. Follow local rules, wind limits, and PPE guidance.
Formula used
Bed width method
- Effective spacing = spacing × (1 − overlap/100)
- Usable width = max(bed width − 2×edge clearance, 0)
- Nozzle count = ceil(usable width / effective spacing) + 1
- Burner length = (nozzle count − 1) × spacing + 2×edge clearance
Row span method
- Burner length = (rows − 1) × row spacing + 2×edge clearance
Given bar method
- Nozzle count = floor((bar length − 2×edge clearance) / spacing) + 1
- Effective coverage = 2×edge clearance + (nozzle count − 1) × effective spacing
How to use this calculator
- Select the method that matches your garden layout.
- Enter widths or row spacing using your preferred units.
- Set nozzle spacing and overlap to match your burner tips.
- Add edge clearance to avoid under-treating bed edges.
- Click Calculate and review nozzle count and coverage.
- Use CSV or PDF export to share and document decisions.

Example data table
| Scenario | Inputs | Output (typical) |
|---|---|---|
| Bed coverage | Bed width 120 cm, spacing 20 cm, overlap 15%, edge 5 cm | Length ≈ 150 cm, nozzles ≈ 8 |
| Row span | 5 rows, row spacing 30 cm, edge 5 cm | Length ≈ 130 cm, nozzles = 5 |
| Given bar | Bar 150 cm, spacing 20 cm, overlap 15%, edge 5 cm | Coverage ≈ 122 cm, nozzles ≈ 8 |
Use these as starting points, then tune spacing and overlap to your equipment.
