Cup to Gram Converter Calculator

Measure garden ingredients with confidence today. Choose your material and cup style. Get clear gram results for tidy mixing every time.

Converter Inputs

Enter a decimal value if needed.
Volume differences change the grams result.
Pick the closest match to your ingredient.
Heaped/compacted are approximations.
0 for dry. Use 10–30 for damp materials.
Mostly affects water; kept intentionally small.

Example Data Table

Examples assume level cups and standard US cup (236.6 mL).
Material 1 cup (g) 2 cups (g) 3.5 cups (g)
Potting soil (dry, loose) 85.2 170.3 298.1
Compost (screened) 118.3 236.6 414.0
Sand (dry) 366.7 733.4 1,283.5
Granular fertilizer 248.4 496.8 869.5
Water (reference) 236.6 473.2 828.1

Formula Used

This converter uses material density and cup volume to estimate mass:

  • grams = cups × cup_mL × density(g/mL) × packing_factor × moisture_factor × temperature_factor
  • kilograms = grams ÷ 1000
  • ounces = grams ÷ 28.349523125

Because garden ingredients vary, the Custom density option gives the best real-world accuracy.

How to Use This Calculator
