Example data table
| Scenario | Shape | Dimensions | Fill | Freeboard | Displacement | Usable capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tool rinse | Rectangular | 22 in × 18 in × 12 in | 85% | 0.5 in | 10% | ~116 L (30.6 gal) |
| Harvest soak | Round | 18 in diameter × 14 in | 90% | 0.75 in | 5% | ~104 L (27.5 gal) |
| Bucket wash | Rectangular | 24 in × 20 in × 14 in | 70% | 1.0 in | 15% + 5 L | ~124 L (32.7 gal) |
Examples are illustrative. Your sink and routine vary.
Formula used
- Rectangular basin volume: V = L × W × (D − F) × P
- Round basin volume: V = π × (DIA/2)² × (D − F) × P
- Conversion: Liters = m³ × 1000, Gallons = Liters ÷ 3.78541
- Displacement: Usable = Gross × (1 − disp%) − dispVolume
- Fill time: Minutes = UsableLiters ÷ Flow(L/min)
- Weight: Mass = (Liters/1000) × density
L, W, D are inside dimensions. F is freeboard. P is fill fraction.
How to use this calculator
- Select the basin shape and measurement units.
- Measure inside dimensions and enter length/width or diameter.
- Enter depth and add freeboard for splash control.
- Set a target fill percent for your typical task.
- Add displacement percent for tools, produce, or buckets.
- Optionally subtract a known object volume for accuracy.
- Set flow rate to estimate fill time for refills.
- Press Calculate to see results above the form.
