Calculate.Formula Used
This tool estimates pot volume using the closest simple solid shape.
- Round pot (cylinder): V = π × (d/2)² × h
- Square pot (box): V = w × w × h
- Rectangular pot (box): V = w × l × h
Volume uses internal dimensions when possible. Results are guidance, not a guarantee. Drainage, soil mix, and plant type can change the best choice.
How to Use This Calculator
- Select your units and pot shape.
- Enter current pot dimensions, using inside measurements if possible.
- Pick a sizing method:
- Standard step-up: simple next-size guidance.
- Rootball clearance: uses measured root mass plus margin.
- Volume multiplier: targets a chosen volume increase.
- Use Advanced options to reflect drainage and materials.
- Press Calculate. Download results as CSV or PDF.
Example Data Table
| Shape | Current size | Growth | Method | Suggested new size | Approx. increase |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Round | 20 cm dia × 18 cm tall | Moderate | Standard | 25 cm dia × 20 cm tall | ~55% |
| Square | 16 in wide × 14 in tall | Slow | Multiplier (1.25) | 17.5 in wide × 15.5 in tall | ~25% |
| Rectangle | 18 cm W × 28 cm L × 18 cm H | Fast | Clearance (3 cm) | 24 cm W × 34 cm L × 20 cm H | ~80% |
