Soil settlement occurs when sub-surface soil layers compress under added weight, expelling pore water and rearranging solid particles into a denser configuration. Formula Used

This calculator relies on established geotechnical principles, specifically Terzaghi's consolidation theory. For normally consolidated fine-grained soils, primary compression settlement ($S_c$) is determined using the compression index equation:

$$S_c = \frac{C_c \cdot H_0}{1 + e_0} \log_{10}\left(\frac{p_0 + \Delta P}{p_0}\right)$$

Where $C_c$ represents the compression index, $H_0$ is the initial stratum thickness, $e_0$ is the initial void ratio, $p_0$ is initial effective overburden pressure, and $\Delta P$ is the induced surface stress increment from landscape loads.
