Calculator
Use container dimensions, fill level, and displacement for an accurate bath estimate.
Example data table
| Container | Dims | Depth | Fill | Displacement | Effective water |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rectangular tub | 32×20 cm | 18 cm | 85% | 5% | 9.30 L |
| Rectangular cooler | 45×28 cm | 20 cm | 80% | 8% | 18.58 L |
| Round pot | 26 cm diameter | 17 cm | 90% | 4% | 7.74 L |
| Round stockpot | 30 cm diameter | 20 cm | 85% | 6% | 11.33 L |
| Small tub | 24×18 cm | 14 cm | 85% | 3% | 4.90 L |
Values are illustrative. Your container shape and depth drive the result.
Formula used
- Rectangular volume: Volume = Length × Width × Depth
- Round volume: Volume = π × (Diameter ÷ 2)² × Depth
- Unit conversion: 1,000 cm³ = 1 liter, and 1 liter ≈ 0.264172 US gallons
- Fill planning: Suggested fill = Volume × (Fill % ÷ 100)
- Displacement: Effective water = Suggested fill × (1 − Displacement % ÷ 100)
If you enter minimum or maximum lines, the calculator also estimates volumes at those depths.
How to use this calculator
- Select your container shape and measurement units.
- Measure the water depth you plan to use.
- Enter length and width, or diameter for round pots.
- Choose a fill level to keep safe headspace.
- Estimate displacement from bags, racks, and weights.
- Optionally enter minimum and maximum line depths.
- Press Submit to see liters and gallons above the form.
For long cooks, start slightly higher to offset evaporation.
