Tool Vibration Exposure Calculator

Measure tool vibration, duration, and your daily dose. Plan rotations and pauses for steadier hands. Print reports, share results, and garden comfortably longer outside.

Calculator Inputs

Enter tool vibration and your work pattern. Use realistic values from the tool label or manual.

Example: hedge trimmer, leaf blower, chainsaw.
Used for reporting and comparison.
Use the declared vibration value where available.
If you work in blocks, count each block.
Tool-on time, not total time on site.
Helps planning, not used in A(8) math.
Use 0 if unsure. Typical range: 0–20%.
1.00 normal, >1 worn, <1 well maintained.
1.00 neutral, >1 tight grip, <1 relaxed grip.

Example Data Table

These sample entries show how different tools change exposure.

Tool Vibration (m/s²) Sessions Minutes/Session Glove % Maint. Grip Estimated A(8)
Hedge Trimmer 4.5 2 45 10 1.00 1.05 ≈ 1.88
Leaf Blower 6.0 3 35 5 1.10 1.10 ≈ 3.77
Chainsaw 7.5 2 30 0 1.15 1.20 ≈ 4.91
Values are illustrative; use your tool’s declared vibration where possible.
Formula Used

The calculator estimates the effective vibration (aeff) and daily exposure (A(8)) over an 8‑hour reference day.

  • Effective vibration: aeff = ahv × (1 − glove%/100) × maintenance × grip
  • Daily exposure: A(8) = √( Σ(aeff² × Ti) / 480 ) with T in minutes
  • Single pattern shortcut: A(8) = aeff × √(T / 480)
How to Use This Calculator
  1. Find the tool vibration magnitude (m/s²) on the label or manual.
  2. Enter how many sessions you run the tool each day.
  3. Enter minutes per session based on tool-on time.
  4. Optional: set glove reduction and technique factors realistically.
  5. Click calculate to see A(8), risk level, and suggested limits.
  6. Download CSV or PDF to keep records for your tasks.
