Plan Attributes With Confidence

A 5e character depends on six ability scores. Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma shape most rolls. Each score becomes a modifier. That modifier affects attacks, checks, saves, initiative, hit point planning, carrying limits, and many class features. This calculator keeps those details in one place. It helps players test a build before writing the final sheet.

Why Modifiers Matter

Small score changes can alter many outcomes. A score of 14 gives a plus two modifier. A score of 15 gives the same modifier, but may be useful later. A score of 16 raises the modifier to plus three. That single step can improve damage, saving throws, skills, spell attacks, and save difficulties. Seeing every value together makes choices easier.

Point Buy Support

Many tables use point buy. It gives every character a fair starting budget. This tool checks the common 8 to 15 base range. It adds the related cost for each base score. Scores outside that range are still calculated, but their point cost is marked as unavailable. This keeps home rules flexible while still showing the normal budget.

Level And Proficiency

Proficiency grows with level. The calculator can choose the usual bonus from level one through twenty. You may also enter a custom value. That is useful for house rules, monsters, sidekicks, or special campaign designs. Save proficiency boxes add the bonus only where chosen. The result table separates modifiers from saving throw totals.

Extra Play Details

The tool also estimates passive perception, initiative, carrying capacity, push, drag, lift limits, and jump distances. These values often slow down a session. Keeping them beside the attributes gives faster answers during travel, combat, and exploration. Notes can be written for race bonuses, feats, magic items, or temporary effects.

Exporting Results

The CSV button saves structured numbers for spreadsheets. The PDF button creates a simple table for printing or sharing. Both exports use the current calculation. Recalculate after changing any score, bonus, level, or proficiency setting. Then download the updated report and keep it with your character notes.

Review the summary before play begins. Discuss unclear results with your table openly. The numbers support planning, but your group rules always decide final character values fairly.

FAQs

What is a 5e attribute calculator?

It calculates ability modifiers, saving throws, point costs, and related character values from six ability scores.

How is the ability modifier calculated?

The modifier uses floor((score - 10) / 2). Scores below 10 usually give negative modifiers. Higher scores give stronger bonuses.

Does this calculator support point buy?

Yes. It checks the common 8 to 15 base score range and totals the related point costs.

Can I add racial or origin bonuses?

Yes. Enter those values in the permanent bonus fields. The final score includes base, permanent, and temporary bonuses.

How do saving throw proficiencies work?

Select the saving throw box for any proficient ability. The calculator adds the proficiency bonus to that save.

Can I use custom proficiency rules?

Yes. Uncheck automatic proficiency and enter your own value. This helps with house rules and special creatures.

What does the PDF button export?

It exports the current result rows, including abilities, modifiers, saves, derived values, and short notes.

Should final values always follow this result?

No. Treat the result as a guide. Your table rules, campaign choices, and game master decisions should decide final values.
