Advanced AR Calculator
Enter weapon base values, scaling grades, stats, upgrade multipliers, buffs, and enemy defense values. The form uses a three column layout on large screens, two columns on tablets, and one column on mobile.
Example Data Table
| Weapon Idea | Base Type | Stats | Scaling | Suggested Use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Refined Longsword | Physical | 40 STR / 40 DEX | C / C | Balanced quality build test. |
| Heavy Greatsword | Physical | 60 STR / 12 DEX | A / None | Two handed strength comparison. |
| Chaos Blade Setup | Physical and Fire | 30 INT / 30 FTH | Low physical, dual fire scaling | Split damage estimate. |
| Crystal Weapon | Physical and Magic | 18 STR / 18 DEX / 50 INT | Intelligence focus | Sorcery build planning. |
Formula Used
This calculator uses a planning formula, not a hidden game engine dump. It is useful for comparing builds and custom weapon ideas.
Adjusted Base AR = Base AR × Upgrade Multiplier × Infusion Multiplier × Condition Multiplier
Scaling AR = Adjusted Base AR × Scaling Coefficient × Stat Factor × Precision
Total AR = Physical AR + Magic AR + Fire AR + Lightning AR + Dark AR + Buffs
Estimated Hit = max(0, AR × Motion Value - Defense) × (1 - Absorption)
Scaling letters use editable coefficients. S is highest. A, B, C, D, and E decrease in strength. None removes scaling. Two handing applies a 1.5 Strength multiplier, capped at 99. Requirement failure adds a planning penalty.
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the weapon name and base attack values.
- Add upgrade, infusion, and condition multipliers.
- Enter your character stats and weapon requirements.
- Choose scaling grades for each useful stat.
- Add buffs, extra flat AR, and motion value.

Dark Souls 3 AR Planning Guide
Understanding Attack Rating
Attack rating is the number shown on a weapon screen. It combines base power and scaling power. Dark Souls 3 also separates damage types. A sword may show physical damage only. An infused blade may split physical, magic, fire, lightning, or dark damage. This calculator helps you test those parts before you spend materials.
Base Damage and Scaling
Base damage comes from the weapon, upgrade level, and infusion. Scaling damage comes from your attributes. Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Faith, and Luck can all matter. The chosen scaling grades decide how strongly each stat contributes. A two handed weapon uses higher effective Strength, so the result can change a lot.
Split Damage Checks
Split damage needs careful reading. A high total AR can still feel weaker against some enemies. Each damage type meets its own defense and absorption. That is why the tool includes an estimated hit section. It applies motion value, flat defense, and absorption. It does not replace in game testing, but it gives a useful planning view.
Build Comparison
Use this page when comparing builds. Enter the same weapon twice with different stats. Change only one field at a time. This makes the difference easy to see. You can test Heavy, Sharp, Refined, Chaos, Crystal, Lightning, Hollow, or custom ideas by adjusting multipliers and grades.
Exporting Results
The export buttons help record results. Save a CSV for spreadsheets. Save a PDF for notes or build guides. Keep the example table nearby, because it shows sensible starter values.
Final Notes
Remember that real damage also depends on moveset, counter hits, stamina, rings, buffs, enemy weakness, and upgrade path. Attack rating is only one part of a build. Still, it is a strong first filter. A weapon with good scaling, enough base damage, and the right buff often performs well. Use the estimate, then test the weapon in the field. For best results, start with exact weapon screen values. Then add upgrade and infusion changes. If you only know a letter grade, use the default coefficient. If you know a tested coefficient, use the custom percent field. Small changes can matter near soft caps. Check several levels before finalizing a build. The clean output makes those comparisons faster and easier to share with friends.
FAQs
What is AR in Dark Souls 3?
AR means attack rating. It is the displayed weapon power before many combat factors. It combines base attack, scaling attack, damage types, and some flat bonuses.
Is total AR the same as real damage?
No. Real damage also depends on enemy defense, absorption, motion value, counter hits, buffs, and attack type. This tool includes an estimate for better planning.
Why can split damage feel weak?
Split damage passes through more than one defense check. A high combined AR can lose more value when each element meets enemy defenses separately.
Does two handing change Strength?
Yes. The calculator applies a 1.5 Strength multiplier when two handed is selected. This can improve Strength scaling and help meet Strength requirements.
What does scaling precision mean?
It lets you adjust the strength of letter scaling. Use 100 percent for normal estimates. Lower it when a weapon letter seems too generous.
Can I calculate infused weapons?
Yes. Enter the infused base damage, choose the new scaling grades, and adjust the infusion multiplier. You can test elemental or hybrid setups.
Why add enemy defense fields?
They help estimate practical hit damage. AR alone cannot show how a weapon performs against a specific enemy or absorption profile.
Can I export my result?
Yes. After calculation, use the CSV button for spreadsheet data. Use the PDF button for a simple build note or comparison sheet.
