Example Data Table

Creature Level Food Rate Estimated Food Purpose
Rex 150 Exceptional Kibble 1x 3 Boss army breeding start
Argentavis 120 Superior Kibble 2x 3 Long distance cargo travel
Ankylosaurus 100 Crops 1.5x 4 Metal farming support
Pteranodon 80 Prime Meat 1x 3 Early flying mount

Formula Used

This calculator uses practical planning formulas for estimated taming needs. Required affinity is calculated from creature base affinity and wild level. Effective food affinity is multiplied by taming rate and server multiplier.

Food Needed = Required Affinity ÷ Effective Food Affinity

Taming Time = Remaining Food Drop ÷ Food Drain Speed

Bonus Levels = Half Wild Level × Taming Effectiveness Percent

Torpor need is estimated from creature base torpor, level scaling, time, and narcotic strength. Real game values can vary by creature, platform, balance changes, and server settings. Use the result as a strong planning guide.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Select the creature you want to tame.
  2. Enter the wild level seen through your spyglass.
  3. Choose the best available food for that creature.
  4. Enter taming rate, food drain rate, and server multiplier.
  5. Add starve progress if you already waited before feeding.
  6. Set torpor value restored by your narcotic item.
  7. Press the calculate button.
  8. Review food, time, narcotics, effectiveness, and final level.
  9. Download CSV or PDF for tribe sharing.

Advanced ARK Taming Planning Guide

Why Taming Planning Matters

Taming in ARK Survival Evolved is rarely a simple task. Every attempt carries risk, cost, time, and travel pressure. A high level creature can become a powerful mount, breeder, fighter, or resource helper. Yet one mistake can waste kibble, narcotics, darts, and armor. This calculator helps you prepare before the creature is trapped or knocked out.

Food Choice Changes Everything

Better food usually gives faster progress and higher effectiveness. Kibble is often the safest choice when available. Prime meat, mutton, crops, berries, and normal meat can still work. They may need more pieces and extra torpor support. The calculator compares food strength with creature level. This gives a useful estimate for supplies.

Level and Server Rates

Wild level affects nearly every part of the plan. Higher level creatures need more affinity. They also have higher torpor pools. Server settings can make taming faster or slower. A boosted taming rate reduces the food needed. A higher food drain rate shortens waiting time. Always enter your real server values for better planning.

Torpor and Safety

Torpor is the main danger after knockout. If torpor reaches zero, the creature wakes up. Then the tame can fail quickly. Carry more narcotics than the estimate. Bring extra weapons, traps, shields, beds, and food. Dangerous zones can add predators, weather, and enemy players.

Starve Taming Use

Starve taming means waiting before adding food. This method can protect rare food from being wasted. It does not magically improve effectiveness. It mainly changes when food is consumed. Enter starve progress to reduce remaining food drop time. This helps with long tames.

Using Results in a Tribe

The CSV download is useful for spreadsheets. The PDF download is useful for quick sharing. Tribe leaders can plan who brings food, narcotics, weapons, traps, and transport mounts. Good preparation lowers panic. It also makes high value taming runs smoother and safer.

FAQs

What does this taming calculator estimate?

It estimates food pieces, taming time, torpor, narcotics, effectiveness, bonus levels, and final level using selected creature, food, level, and server rates.

Are the results exact for every ARK server?

No. Server settings, creature updates, mods, event rates, and balance changes can alter real values. Use results as a planning estimate.

Why does kibble usually need less food?

Kibble has high affinity value. It gives stronger taming progress per bite, so fewer pieces are needed compared with weaker foods.

What is taming effectiveness?

Taming effectiveness measures quality retained during taming. Higher effectiveness gives more bonus levels after the creature is fully tamed.

What does starve progress mean?

Starve progress means part of the required food drop already happened before feeding. It reduces estimated remaining time after food is added.

Should I carry extra narcotics?

Yes. Always carry extra narcotics or stronger torpor items. Travel delays, attacks, and mistakes can increase real torpor needs.

Can this help with tribe planning?

Yes. Use the CSV or PDF result to share required supplies, expected time, and final level estimates with tribe members.

Why is final level only an estimate?

Final level depends on actual effectiveness loss during feeding. Damage after knockout, wrong food, and long waits may reduce the final result.
