Formula Used
The calculator compares bust, waist, hips, shoulders, and optional high hip. All measurements are converted to inches internally when needed.
- Waist definition: 1 - waist / average of bust and hips.
- Waist to hip ratio: waist / hips.
- Bust hip difference: bust minus hips, divided by the larger value.
- Shoulder hip difference: shoulders minus hips, divided by the larger value.
- Symmetry score: 100 minus the absolute bust hip difference.
- Balance index: average upper and lower measurements divided by waist.
Shape rules use percentage thresholds. For example, an hourglass result needs balanced bust and hips plus a clear waist difference.

Female Body Shape Guide
Why Measurements Matter
Body shape is based on proportion. It is not based on beauty, size, or fitness. Two people can wear the same size and still have different silhouettes. This calculator studies the relationship between bust, waist, hips, and shoulders. It then finds the closest common body shape pattern.
Understanding the Main Shapes
An hourglass shape has a balanced bust and hip line. The waist is clearly smaller. A pear shape has stronger hips compared with the upper body. An inverted triangle has broader shoulders or bust compared with the hips. A rectangle shape has measurements that stay close together. An apple or oval shape has a waist that is closer to the bust and hip size.
Use Results as a Styling Guide
The result should help with outfit planning. It should not limit your choices. A pear shape may enjoy structured tops and simple bottoms. An inverted triangle may enjoy fuller skirts or wide-leg pants. A rectangle shape may create curves with belts, seams, and layers. An hourglass shape often works well with waist-focused designs.
Measure Carefully
Small errors can change the result. Use a soft tape. Keep it straight and relaxed. Measure the fullest bust point. Measure the narrowest natural waist. Measure the fullest hip point. Shoulder width should follow the widest upper line. Do not pull the tape too tight.
Personal Fit Comes First
Body shape calculators give an estimate. Real bodies are more detailed than categories. Posture, fabric, garment cut, and personal taste also matter. Use the chart and ratios as a helpful starting point. Then choose clothing that feels comfortable, balanced, and expressive.
FAQs
1. What measurements are required?
Bust, waist, hips, and shoulders are required. High hip, height, and weight are optional. The optional values add extra context but do not replace the main shape rules.
2. Is this calculator only for women?
It is designed around common female styling categories. Anyone may use it, but the labels and style notes focus on female body proportion systems.
3. Can my result change?
Yes. The result can change with measurement accuracy, body changes, posture, or clothing thickness. Recheck your numbers if the result seems unexpected.
4. What is waist definition?
Waist definition compares the waist with the average of bust and hips. A higher percentage means the waist is more visually defined.
5. What does symmetry score mean?
Symmetry score compares bust and hip balance. A higher score means both measurements are closer. It does not judge health or attractiveness.
6. Why include shoulder measurement?
Shoulder width helps detect inverted triangle and balanced shapes. It also improves styling guidance for jackets, necklines, and upper-body structure.
7. Does BMI affect body shape?
BMI is optional and only gives broad size context. The body shape result mainly depends on bust, waist, hips, and shoulders.
8. Can I export my results?
Yes. Use the CSV button for spreadsheet data. Use the PDF button for a simple printable report with your result and ratios.
