Formula Used

Old School RuneScape: Combat = floor((0.25 × (Defence + Hitpoints + floor(Prayer / 2))) + max(0.325 × (Attack + Strength), 0.325 × floor(Ranged × 1.5), 0.325 × floor(Magic × 1.5)))

Modern RuneScape: Combat = floor(((1.3 × max(Attack + Strength, 2 × Ranged, 2 × Magic, 2 × Necromancy)) + Defence + Constitution + floor(Prayer / 2) + floor(Summoning / 2)) / 4)

Prayer and Summoning use rounded down half levels. The final displayed combat level is also rounded down.

RuneScape Combat Planning Guide

A combat level is more than a badge. It shapes matchmaking, wilderness risk, monster targeting, and account planning. A small level change can alter a pure, main, skiller, or hybrid build. This calculator helps you see that change before spending time on training.

Why Combat Level Matters

RuneScape uses combat level to compare fighting strength. The number is built from combat skills, not from total level or wealth. Attack and Strength form the melee path. Ranged and Magic form separate paths. Defence, Hitpoints or Constitution, Prayer, and Summoning add defensive weight. Modern RuneScape also includes Necromancy.

Build Control

Good builds avoid wasted levels. A one Defence account may gain power from Ranged or Magic without adding melee levels at every step. A main account usually wants balanced progress. A tank account may push Defence higher while keeping offence controlled. The contribution table shows which side is raising the final level.

Using the Results

Start by entering your current skill levels. Pick the game mode that matches your account. Submit the form. The result appears above the form for quick review. Check the exact value, displayed value, dominant style, and next level suggestions. Export the data when you want to save a plan.

Training Decisions

Use the next level section carefully. It estimates which single skill can raise your displayed level first. That does not always mean it is the best skill to train. Gear goals, quests, prayer unlocks, and content requirements may matter more than the smallest level jump.

Practical Example

A ranged pure may test Defence changes before questing. A main may compare balanced melee against Magic. A modern account can check how Necromancy changes the dominant offence. These tests help you plan cleaner builds. They also make progress easier to explain to clan members or teammates.

Best Practice

Save each result as CSV for spreadsheets. Use the PDF button for simple sharing. Keep a note of your target combat level. Then train toward useful unlocks, not random numbers.

Retest after every milestone. Prayer unlocks, weapon tiers, and safe minigame limits can change your plan. Clean records make long training routes easier to audit, compare, and improve before costly account build mistakes happen later today.

FAQs

What does this calculator measure?

It estimates your displayed combat level from combat skills. It also shows the exact value, dominant style, contribution breakdown, and possible next level paths.

Does it support Old School RuneScape?

Yes. Choose Old School RuneScape in the mode field. The calculator then uses Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Ranged, Magic, and Prayer.

Does it support modern RuneScape?

Yes. Choose Modern RuneScape. That mode includes Attack, Strength, Defence, Constitution, Ranged, Magic, Prayer, Summoning, and Necromancy.

Why is my exact value different from displayed level?

The game displays the rounded down combat level. The exact value helps you see progress toward the next displayed level.

What is the dominant style?

It is the combat style with the highest offensive contribution. It can be Melee, Ranged, Magic, or Necromancy in modern mode.

Does Summoning count in free worlds?

In modern mode, free world selection reduces Summoning impact. This helps model accounts where Summoning should not raise the main displayed value.

Can I export my result?

Yes. After submitting the form, use the CSV button for spreadsheet data or the PDF button for a simple shareable report.

Can this plan pure accounts?

Yes. Enter low Defence builds and test skill changes. The breakdown helps show which levels raise combat and which levels stay efficient.
