Formula Used
The calculator estimates corrected oxygen saturation first. It then compares the measured dissolved oxygen value with that saturation value.

What is dissolved oxygen?

Why does temperature change the result?
Cold water can hold more oxygen than warm water. A warm sample may have a lower saturation value even when the ecosystem is normal.
Is ppm the same as mg/L?
For most fresh water checks, ppm is treated as mg/L. Very dense or unusual liquids may need a density correction.
Why is salinity included?
Salts reduce oxygen solubility. A marine or brackish sample normally reaches saturation at a lower mg/L value than fresh water.
