Example Data Table

Distance Time Split Watts Use Case
500 m 1:45 1:45 /500m 302.2 W Sprint test
2000 m 7:20 1:50 /500m 247.9 W Benchmark row
5000 m 20:00 2:00 /500m 202.5 W Aerobic work
10000 m 42:00 2:06 /500m 174.9 W Endurance session

Formula Used

Split from distance and time: split = 500 × time ÷ distance.

Time from distance and split: time = split × distance ÷ 500.

Distance from time and split: distance = time ÷ split × 500.

Watts from split: watts = 2.8 ÷ (split ÷ 500)3.

Split from watts: split = 500 × cube root of 2.8 ÷ watts.

True calories per hour: PM calories/hour − 300 + (1.714 × body weight in kg).

Workout calories: true calories/hour × workout seconds ÷ 3600.

How To Use This Calculator

Select the mode that matches your known workout values. Use distance and time when you already finished a workout. Use distance and split when you want to plan a target time. Use time and split when you want to estimate possible distance. Use watts mode when you want to reverse power into pace.

Enter your body weight in kilograms for the calorie adjustment. Enter the PM calories per hour from your monitor summary. Add stroke rate if you want estimated strokes and meters per stroke. Press the calculate button. The result appears above the form and below the header.

Use the CSV button for spreadsheet records. Use the PDF button for a simple workout report.

Concept 2 Erg Training Guide

Why Erg Numbers Matter

An erg workout is more useful when the numbers are clear. Pace, time, distance, watts, and calories all describe the same effort from different angles. A split shows how long it takes to cover 500 meters. This is the main rowing pace value. It helps compare short rows, long rows, and interval work.

Using Pace And Watts

Watts show power. A small pace change can create a large watts change. This happens because the watts formula uses a cube. Moving from 2:00 to 1:50 feels much harder than the numbers may first suggest. This calculator helps show that jump. It also helps avoid poor pacing in long sessions.

Planning Better Sessions

Use target distance for race planning. Enter your current split. Then compare the projected time. This helps set realistic goals for 500 meters, 2000 meters, 5000 meters, or longer rows. You can also test what happens when pace improves by one or two seconds.

Calories And Weight

Calorie values on the monitor are standardized. They are useful for comparison. They may not match your exact body burn. The weight adjustment gives a better estimate. It uses body weight and average calories per hour. This gives a more personal workout calorie result.

Stroke Efficiency

Stroke rate alone does not prove speed. A rower can rate high and still move poorly. Meters per stroke adds context. Higher meters per stroke usually means stronger drive length. Lower values may suggest rushed movement. Compare this value across similar workouts.

Smart Training Use

Use this tool before hard intervals. Pick a target split. Check watts and projected time. After the workout, enter actual results. Save the export. Over time, your records will show progress. The best use is simple. Plan, row, compare, and adjust.

FAQs

What is a Concept 2 erg calculator?

It is a tool that estimates rowing pace, watts, time, distance, calories, speed, strokes, and target performance from common erg workout values.

What does split mean?

Split means your pace per 500 meters. A 2:00 split means you are covering each 500 meters in two minutes on average.

Why do watts rise quickly when split improves?

Watts use a cubic relationship with pace. Because of that, a few seconds faster per 500 meters can require much more power.

Can I calculate time from distance and split?

Yes. Select distance and split mode. Enter the distance and average split. The calculator will estimate the total workout time.

Can I calculate distance from time and split?

Yes. Select time and split mode. Enter workout duration and average split. The calculator will estimate how many meters you can cover.

Are calorie results exact?

No. They are estimates. The calculator adjusts monitor calories per hour by body weight, but individual calorie burn can still vary.

What is meters per stroke?

It estimates distance covered per stroke. It helps review efficiency when combined with split, watts, and stroke rate.

Can I export my results?

Yes. After calculating, use the CSV or PDF button to save your workout values for records, coaching, or later comparison.
