Formula Used

Mean of X: x̄ = Σ(wᵢxᵢ) / Σwᵢ

Mean of Y: ȳ = Σ(wᵢyᵢ) / Σwᵢ

Population covariance: Cov(X,Y) = Σ[wᵢ(xᵢ - x̄)(yᵢ - ȳ)] / Σwᵢ

Sample covariance: Cov(X,Y) = Σ[wᵢ(xᵢ - x̄)(yᵢ - ȳ)] / (Σwᵢ - 1)

Correlation: r = Sxy / √(Sxx × Syy)

Regression line: Y = a + bX, where b = Sxy / Sxx and a = ȳ - bx̄.

Use the population formula when your rows include every case. Use the sample formula when your rows are a subset. Correlation standardizes the movement, so it is easier to compare across units.
