Formula used

The calculator uses a joint volume approach for rectangular tiles. All dimensions are converted to meters first.

Joint volume = Area × Joint width × Grout depth × (1 ÷ Tile length + 1 ÷ Tile width) × Layout factor × Extra factor.

Raw mass = Joint volume × Grout density.

Required mass = Raw mass × (1 + Waste percentage ÷ 100).

Bags needed = Required mass ÷ Bag size, rounded up to the next whole bag.
