Formula Used

Level 1 HP = hit die maximum + Constitution modifier.

Average HP = level 1 HP + ((level - 1) × average die gain + Constitution modifier).

Maximum HP = level 1 HP + ((level - 1) × hit die maximum + Constitution modifier).

Final HP = base HP + Tough bonus + ancestry bonus + custom bonus.

Select your class first. The tool assigns the correct hit die. Enter your level and Constitution modifier. Choose average, maximum, or rolled health rules. Add feat, ancestry, or custom bonuses when needed. Press calculate. The result appears above the form. Then export your numbers as CSV or PDF.

Advanced D&D 5e HP Planning Guide

Hit points shape survival in every campaign. A strong total helps a hero stay active during long fights. A weak total creates risk. This calculator gives a fast way to compare health choices before play begins.

Class choice matters first. Barbarians use the largest hit die. Fighters, paladins, and rangers follow closely. Wizards and sorcerers gain less health, so their Constitution score is more important. The tool uses the selected class to set the correct die.

Level also changes the result. First level usually gives the full hit die value. Later levels may use the fixed average, a roll, or the maximum value. Many tables use average health because it is fair and simple. Some groups prefer rolling because it adds tension.

Constitution is a major factor. A +2 modifier adds two hit points at every level. At level ten, that becomes twenty extra hit points. A negative modifier can make even tough classes fragile.

Extra options improve accuracy. The Tough feat adds two hit points per level. Hill dwarf ancestry adds one hit point per level. Custom bonus fields help with house rules, magic items, boons, or campaign rewards.

The chart helps compare growth. You can see how hit points rise from level one to twenty. This makes planning easier for tanks, casters, healers, and hybrid characters.

Use the export buttons for records. A CSV file works well for spreadsheets. A PDF is useful for character folders and session notes.
