Formula Used
This calculator supports several popular estimated one rep max formulas. Epley uses 1RM = weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30). Brzycki uses 1RM = weight × 36 ÷ (37 − reps). Lombardi uses 1RM = weight × reps^0.10. O’Conner uses 1RM = weight × (1 + reps ÷ 40). Wathan and Mayhew use exponential models. The average option blends all formulas for a balanced estimate.
The RPE setting adjusts reps by estimated reps in reserve. For example, RPE 9 adds one effective rep. RPE 8 adds two effective reps. This helps estimate strength when the set was not maximal.

Why Estimate Your Maximum?
An estimated one rep max gives a practical view of strength. It avoids testing a true maximum every week. That matters because max attempts create heavy fatigue. They also need strong technique and good recovery. A calculator gives a safer planning number. Lifters can use it to set working weights. Coaches can use it to track progress. Beginners can use it to understand strength levels.
How Reps Affect Accuracy
Lower rep sets usually give better estimates. Sets between one and five reps are often useful. Sets above ten reps may become less exact. Endurance, pacing, and technique can change the result. For this reason, the tool limits practical rep inputs. Use a hard and clean set for best results. Do not use forced reps. Do not use bouncing or partial range reps.
Using RPE and RIR
RPE helps when a set was not all out. A set at RPE 10 means no reps remained. A set at RPE 9 means one rep likely remained. A set at RPE 8 means two reps likely remained. The calculator adds those reserve reps. This creates an adjusted estimate. It can help during normal training blocks. It also supports fatigue management.
Planning Training Loads
Percentage tables turn the estimate into useful weights. Heavy strength work may use 85 to 95 percent. Hypertrophy work often uses 65 to 80 percent. Speed work may use lighter ranges. The best number depends on the lift. It also depends on recovery and training age. Round loads to plates you can actually load. Retest when performance clearly improves.
