Formula Used

Available Points = Target Level - Current Level + Unspent Points.

Perk Rank Cost = Sum of all desired ranks.

SPECIAL Boost Cost = Sum of missing SPECIAL points needed to unlock selected perks.

Total Plan Cost = Perk Rank Cost + SPECIAL Boost Cost.

Remaining Points = Available Points - Total Plan Cost.

The rank gate estimate uses simple planning milestones. Rank two maps to level 7. Rank three maps to level 14. Rank four maps to level 25. Rank five maps to level 40.

Planning Perks With Purpose

A Fallout 4 build can grow in many directions. That freedom is fun. It can also waste points. This calculator gives structure before you level. It compares your current level, target level, saved points, SPECIAL scores, and selected ranks. Then it shows whether the plan fits.

Why Point Planning Matters

Every level normally gives one perk point. That point can buy a perk rank. It can also raise one SPECIAL attribute. Strong builds balance both choices. A powerful perk may sit behind a high attribute. The tool adds that hidden cost when your current score is too low. This gives a cleaner cost than counting ranks alone.

Build Focus

Use the focus field to describe your main style. You may choose guns, melee, stealth, crafting, survival, settlement work, or critical hits. The calculator still lets you select any perk. The focus simply helps the summary explain whether your chosen ranks match the goal. A stealth rifle build should lean toward Rifleman, Sneak, Ninja, Locksmith, and critical perks. A workshop leader may need Local Leader, Science, Gun Nut, and Scrapper.

Reading The Result

The result starts with available points. It then shows planned perk ranks, needed attribute boosts, total cost, and remaining points. A positive remainder means the build has room. A negative number means the plan needs more levels or fewer ranks. The estimated ready level shows when the selected plan can be funded.

Using The Table

Each row includes one perk, its linked attribute, required score, maximum rank, and broad role. Set the desired ranks only for perks you want. Keep unwanted perks at zero. The table accepts partial builds, complete builds, or comparison drafts. You can export the current plan as CSV. You can also create a simple PDF summary for sharing.

Practical Tips

Start with a core damage path. Add utility after the core feels stable. Avoid buying too many attribute boosts early. They unlock options, but they delay perk effects. Keep two or three spare points for surprises. Try several plans before choosing one. A planned build feels smoother during hard fights, long quests, settlement defense, and late game exploration.

Small tests now can prevent awkward choices much later in play sessions.

FAQs

What does this calculator measure?

It measures perk rank cost, missing SPECIAL points, total build cost, remaining points, and an estimated level where the plan becomes affordable.

Does each perk rank cost one point?

Yes. The calculator treats each chosen perk rank as one perk point. SPECIAL boosts also cost points when needed for unlocks.

Why is SPECIAL boost cost included?

Some perks require higher SPECIAL scores. If your current score is too low, the calculator adds the missing attribute points to the plan cost.

Can I plan a stealth build?

Yes. Choose stealth as the focus. Then select perks like Sneak, Ninja, Mister Sandman, Locksmith, Rifleman, and critical perks.

Can I export my result?

Yes. After calculating, use the CSV button for spreadsheet data. Use the PDF button for a simple shareable summary.

Does the tool include all base SPECIAL perk rows?

Yes. It includes the ten main perk rows for each SPECIAL attribute, from Strength through Luck.

What if my remaining points are negative?

The build is too expensive for the target level. Raise the target level, remove ranks, or start with higher SPECIAL values.

Can I use this for partial builds?

Yes. Select only the ranks you are considering. The calculator works for quick drafts, focused paths, and complete build plans.
