Formula Used

Average Item Level = Weighted Item Level Total / Counted Slot Weight.

Displayed Average Item Level = floor of Average Item Level.

For two-handed jobs, Main Hand uses weight 2. Off Hand uses weight 0. For one-handed setups, Main Hand and Off Hand each use weight 1.

Planned Average = Planned Weighted Item Level Total / Counted Slot Weight.

Target Weighted Gap = Target Average x Counted Slot Weight - Current Weighted Total.

FF14 Item Level Planning

Item level is a simple number, but it affects many choices. It can decide dungeon access, raid entry, and upgrade order. This calculator helps you study the whole gear set. It also shows which slot may limit your average most.

Why Average Item Level Matters

Final Fantasy XIV checks gear before many duties. The check is based on your equipped items. A higher number does not replace skill. Yet it keeps your character ready for required content. It also helps parties compare basic gear readiness.

How This Tool Helps

The tool accepts every current slot. It supports two weapon modes. Most jobs use one large weapon. Paladin and some special setups can use a weapon plus off hand. The calculator changes the slot weight to match your choice. It then gives current average, displayed average, planned average, missing slots, and duty status.

Upgrade Planning

Planning upgrades is easier when every slot is visible. Enter a planned value for any piece you expect to replace. The tool estimates the new average before you spend currency, tokens, or gil. You can also set a target item level. The gap shows how many weighted item levels are still needed.

Reading The Results

Start with the displayed average. This is the rounded down value many players expect. Then check the weakest slots. Low accessories can hold back a strong weapon. Low armor can also reduce your total. Planned gains show the upgrades with the best effect on the average.

Practical Tips

Keep your weapon updated when possible. It usually affects performance more than its item level alone shows. However, average item level still counts gear slots mathematically. Do not ignore rings or accessories. Small upgrades across several slots can beat one expensive change. Save your result as a CSV for spreadsheets. Save the PDF for a quick gear note.

Using Item Level Wisely

Item level is not a full damage meter. Materia, food, rotation, and uptime still matter. Use the number as an access guide first. Then use it as a planning signal. If two upgrades give similar gains, choose the item with better substats for your job. This keeps the calculator useful without hiding game knowledge and party goals.

FAQs

What is FF14 item level?

It is a gear rating used by the game. It helps check whether your equipped items meet a duty requirement.

Does this calculator include every gear slot?

Yes. It includes main hand, off hand, armor, accessories, and both rings. You can choose how empty slots are handled.

Why does Main Hand count twice?

Most jobs do not use a separate off hand. The calculator can count the main hand twice to balance that missing slot.

When should I choose one-handed mode?

Use one-handed mode when your setup has both a main hand item and an off hand item, such as a shield.

Does materia change item level?

No. Materia can improve stats, but it does not usually change the item level shown on gear.

Why is my displayed average rounded down?

Many players read item level as a whole number. This calculator shows exact average and the rounded down display value.

Can I plan upgrades with this tool?

Yes. Enter planned item levels beside current values. The calculator estimates the new weighted average and upgrade gain.

Can I export my result?

Yes. After calculation, use the CSV or PDF buttons to save your summary and slot breakdown.
