Formula Used

The calculator first converts the local birth date and time into a Julian Day. The time zone offset is subtracted from local time. This gives a universal time estimate for lunar position.

The Moon longitude uses a compact lunar series. It starts with mean lunar longitude. Then it adds periodic corrections for lunar anomaly, solar anomaly, elongation from the Sun, and distance from the lunar node.

The zodiac sign is found by dividing the final ecliptic longitude by thirty. Each zodiac sign covers thirty degrees. For sidereal mode, an approximate ayanamsa value is subtracted first.

Moon phase is estimated from the angular difference between Moon longitude and Sun longitude. The angle is converted into a lunar age using the mean synodic month of 29.530588853 days.

About the Free Moon Sign Calculator

What the Tool Does

A moon sign describes the zodiac area occupied by the Moon at a chosen birth moment. Many people use it for emotional insight, personal study, journaling, and basic astrology reports. This calculator gives a quick result from date, time, and zone information. It also shows degree, lunar phase, moon age, and a short trait summary.

Why Birth Time Matters

The Moon moves quickly compared with the Sun. It can cross about thirteen degrees in one day. That movement means birth time can change the final degree. Sometimes it can also change the sign. Exact time is most important when the Moon is near a sign boundary. The calculator warns you when the result is close to an edge.

Tropical and Sidereal Options

Tropical mode uses the seasonal zodiac. Sidereal mode applies an approximate precession adjustment. The sidereal result can differ from the tropical result. This difference is normal. Different traditions use different reference points. Choose the system that matches your reading style, chart method, or learning goal.

Export and Review

The result section appears above the form after submission. This makes the answer easy to review before editing details. The CSV export is useful for spreadsheets and record keeping. The PDF export is useful for saving a simple report. You can run several examples and compare signs, degrees, phases, and notes.

Accuracy Notes

This page uses a compact astronomical approximation. It is suitable for general learning and fast estimation. Professional ephemeris software may use longer correction tables, delta time handling, location refinements, and specialized chart settings. For important chart work, confirm results with precise birth records and a full ephemeris.

FAQs

What is a moon sign?

Your moon sign is the zodiac sign occupied by the Moon at birth. It is often linked with feelings, habits, instincts, and private reactions.

Do I need my exact birth time?

Exact time gives a better result. The Moon moves fast, so a wrong time can change the degree or even the sign near boundaries.

What if I do not know my birth time?

Use the unknown time option. The calculator will use noon. Treat that result as an estimate, especially near sign changes.

What time zone should I enter?

Enter the UTC offset for the birth location and date. For example, Pakistan Standard Time is 5. Some regions change with daylight saving.

What is tropical mode?

Tropical mode uses the seasonal zodiac. It is common in many modern western astrology systems and begins with the March equinox point.

What is sidereal mode?

Sidereal mode adjusts the zodiac using a precession estimate. This calculator uses a simplified adjustment, so specialist tools may differ slightly.

Why does the phase appear with the sign?

The phase adds lunar context. It shows the Moon’s cycle position, based on the angle between the Sun and Moon longitudes.

Can I download my result?

Yes. After calculation, use the CSV button for spreadsheet data or the PDF button for a simple saved report.
