The Classification and Regression Tree (CART) model for acute heart failure provides rapid, objective risk stratification based on standard admission evaluations. Developed from robust clinical registries like ADHERE, it utilizes sequential branch points to identify patient vulnerability profiles safely at the bedside.
Unlike linear score equations, the CART model processes variables hierarchically. The preliminary branch checks if Blood Urea Nitrogen is 43 mg/dL or higher. Subsequent branches evaluate Systolic Blood Pressure below 115 mmHg and Serum Creatinine values exceeding 2.75 mg/dL to categorize patients into distinct mortality brackets.
