Formula Used

The calculator first converts every weight into grams. Pennyweight is multiplied by 1.55517384. Troy ounces are multiplied by 31.1034768.

Pure grams = total grams × purity percent. Gross melt value = spot price per troy ounce ÷ 31.1034768 × pure grams.

Schedule value = gross melt value × payout schedule percent. Final payout = schedule value − margin reserve − refining fee − other charges − flat deduction.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Select each metal row you want to include.
  2. Enter the lot weight and choose its unit.
  3. Check the purity percent for each metal type.
  4. Enter the current spot price per troy ounce.
  5. Add your payout schedule, margin, fees, and deduction.
  6. Press calculate to show results below the header.

About This Jack Hunt Scrap Calculator

This Jack Hunt Scrap Calculator helps dealers estimate precious metal scrap value. It is built for gold, sterling silver, platinum, and custom purity lots. It uses manual spot prices, so the result follows the market value you enter. It does not create a binding quote. It gives a clean estimate for planning, sorting, and review.

Why Scrap Estimation Matters

Scrap lots often contain many metals and purities. A buyer may handle 10K gold, 14K gold, sterling flatware, platinum jewelry, and mixed custom pieces in one batch. Each item needs weight conversion, purity adjustment, and fee review. A total can hide important details. This calculator shows each line separately. It also shows the grand total.

Main Features

The tool supports grams, pennyweights, and troy ounces. It converts every unit into grams first. Then it applies the metal purity and spot price. Users can set payout rates, margin reserves, refining fees, other charges, and flat deductions. These controls make the calculator useful for quick counter checks and detailed lot reviews.

Dealer Use

A dealer can enter the current gold, silver, or platinum spot price. Then the dealer can add item weights by karat or purity. The payout rate can represent a buying schedule. The margin field can protect profit. The fee fields can cover refining, handling, shipping, or testing costs. The final result helps compare the offer with expected melt value.

Accuracy Notes

Accurate weighing is important. Use a calibrated scale. Separate metals before entering values. Do not mix plated items with solid scrap. Test questionable pieces before pricing them. Spot prices can change often. Refresh your market source before making an offer. Rounding can also affect small lots.

Result Review

The result table gives gross melt value, payout value, deductions, and final value. It also gives the value per gram. This helps compare different lots quickly. The CSV option stores the table for records. The PDF option creates a simple printable summary. Both downloads use the same submitted inputs.

Best Practice

Use this tool as an estimator. Verify purity, weight, and market data before payment. Keep notes for each lot. Review every deduction with the seller. A clear method builds trust and reduces pricing errors.

FAQs

Is this a live scrap quote?

No. It uses the spot prices and rates you enter. It gives an estimate only. Always confirm market prices and buying terms before making a payment or sale.

Can I calculate gold karat scrap?

Yes. The calculator includes 10K, 14K, 18K, and 22K gold rows. You can also change purity values for unusual lots or assay-based estimates.

Does it support sterling silver?

Yes. Sterling silver is included with a default purity of 92.5 percent. You can adjust the purity if your lot uses another silver standard.

Can I add platinum scrap?

Yes. A Platinum 950 row is included. Enter the platinum spot price, weight, payout schedule, and fees to estimate the lot value.

What does payout schedule mean?

It is the percentage of gross melt value you expect to pay or receive before deductions. It can represent your buying formula or dealer schedule.

Why are margin and fees separate?

Margin protects profit. Fees cover costs like refining, testing, handling, and shipping. Keeping them separate makes the estimate easier to review.

Which weight units are supported?

The calculator supports grams, pennyweights, and troy ounces. Each value is converted into grams before purity and spot price calculations.

Can I download my results?

Yes. Submit the form, then choose CSV or PDF. The downloads use the same values entered in the calculator form.
