Formula Used

Gross area = total wall length × average wall height + gable area.

Opening area = window area + door area + other opening area.

Net siding area = gross area − opening area.

Order area = net siding area × (1 + waste percentage ÷ 100).

Coverage per plank = plank length × (lap exposure ÷ 12).

Planks needed = order area ÷ coverage per plank, rounded up.

Total estimate = siding cost + trim cost + wrap cost + fasteners + caulk + labor + tax.
