Formula Used

The calculator first finds gross pay. For hourly pay, it uses regular pay plus overtime pay, bonus, and commission.

Hourly gross pay = hourly rate × regular hours + hourly rate × overtime multiplier × overtime hours + bonus + commission.

Salary gross pay = annual salary ÷ pay periods + bonus + commission.

Federal taxable annual income = ((gross pay − pretax deductions) × pay periods) + other annual income − other annual deductions − standard deduction.

Estimated federal withholding = annual federal tax after W-4 credits ÷ pay periods + extra federal withholding.

FICA = Social Security tax + Medicare tax + additional Medicare tax. Tennessee wage income tax is entered as zero.

Net pay = gross pay − pretax deductions − taxes − post tax deductions + reimbursements.
