Formula Used

Physical average equals the average physical range plus added physical average. That value is multiplied by quality and local physical increase.

Final attack rate equals base attacks per second multiplied by increased attack speed. Item DPS equals average item hit multiplied by final attack rate.

Effective DPS applies skill effect, increased damage, more damage, critical factor, hit chance, resistance, penetration, and hits per attack.

Physical Average = ((Physical Min + Physical Max) / 2 + Added Physical Average) × (1 + (Quality + Local Physical Increase) / 100)

Final APS = Base APS × (1 + Increased Attack Speed / 100)

Item DPS = (Physical Average + Elemental Average + Chaos Average) × Final APS

Critical Factor = 1 + Critical Chance × (Critical Multiplier - 1)

Effective DPS = Adjusted Average Hit × Damage Scale × Critical Factor × Hit Chance × Final APS × Hits Per Attack

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the physical damage range from the item.
  2. Add any extra physical, elemental, or chaos damage ranges.
  3. Enter base attacks per second and attack speed modifiers.
  4. Add quality, local physical increase, and build scaling values.
  5. Set critical chance, multiplier, hit chance, resistance, and penetration.
  6. Press Calculate DPS to view results above the form.
  7. Use CSV or PDF buttons to export the current calculation.

Example Data Table

Advanced Item Damage Planning

A strong Path of Exile weapon is more than one large number. It combines physical rolls, added elemental rolls, added chaos damage, attack speed, critical chance, and many multipliers. This calculator brings those parts into one readable result. You can study a rare item, compare a crafted upgrade, or test a market listing before spending currency.

Why Item DPS Matters

Item DPS gives a fast view of weapon strength. Physical DPS shows the local physical part. Elemental DPS shows added fire, cold, and lightning style damage entered as one range. Chaos DPS is kept separate. Total item DPS joins these ranges with attack speed. This helps when two weapons have different rolls and different speeds.

Advanced Result Controls

The form also supports build style adjustments. Quality and local physical increase raise the physical portion. Increased attack speed changes the final attack rate. Global increased damage, more damage, critical chance, critical multiplier, hit chance, skill damage effect, enemy resistance, penetration, and hits per attack shape the effective DPS estimate.

Practical Upgrade Use

Use the base fields for the item shown in game. Add flat physical rolls when they are not already included in your range. Enter elemental and chaos ranges from modifiers or crafted affixes. Then add combat assumptions from your character sheet. The result separates item strength from build scaling, so decisions stay clearer.

Export and Compare

The CSV button saves a compact table for spreadsheets. The PDF button creates a simple report for records. This is useful when comparing several weapons during trade searches or crafting attempts. Save one result, change a roll, and save another. The better item usually has stronger effective DPS, not only higher raw DPS.

Reading the Numbers

Raw DPS is best for judging the weapon itself. Effective DPS is better for judging a planned setup. A weapon with slower speed can still win if its average hit is much higher. A fast weapon can win when added damage and critical scaling are strong. Enemy resistance also matters. Penetration can make elemental and chaos portions more valuable. Always compare items under the same assumptions, because different settings can change the ranking. Small tests reveal hidden upgrade value before trades or crafting.

FAQs

What is PoE item DPS?

It is the average item damage multiplied by attacks per second. It helps compare weapons with different damage ranges and speeds.

What is physical DPS?

Physical DPS uses only the physical damage portion. This calculator applies quality and local physical increase before multiplying by final attack rate.

What is elemental DPS?

Elemental DPS uses the entered elemental damage range. You can combine fire, cold, and lightning values into one minimum and maximum range.

Does critical chance affect item DPS?

Critical chance does not change raw item DPS. It affects tooltip and effective estimates through the critical factor.

How is resistance handled?

The calculator subtracts penetration from enemy resistance. The remaining resistance adjusts elemental and chaos damage in the effective estimate.

Should I enter tooltip values?

Enter item ranges and separate modifiers when possible. Tooltip values may already include skill, passive, aura, or enemy assumptions.

What does hits per attack mean?

It represents repeated hits from one attack action. Use it for skills that strike more than once under the same attack cycle.

Can I export my results?

Yes. Use the CSV button for spreadsheet work. Use the PDF button for a simple saved report.
