Formula Used
Hidden Power type uses the lowest bit of each IV. The order is HP, Attack, Defense, Speed, Special Attack, and Special Defense.
Type value = floor(((a + 2b + 4c + 8d + 16e + 32f) × 15) / 63). The result maps to Fighting, Flying, Poison, Ground, Rock, Bug, Ghost, Steel, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, and Dark.
For older games, power uses the second lowest bit. Power = floor(((u + 2v + 4w + 8x + 16y + 32z) × 40) / 63) + 30. Later games use fixed 60 power.
How to Use This Calculator

Pokemon Hidden Power Planning Guide
What Hidden Power Shows
Hidden Power is a special move with a type decided by IV values. It was famous because it gave many attackers extra coverage. A Pokemon with limited moves could hit threats that normally resisted it. This made IV planning important for older competitive formats.
Why IV Parity Matters
This calculator focuses on parity. An even IV has a lowest bit of zero. An odd IV has a lowest bit of one. The formula combines six small bits into one type index. Small IV changes can therefore change the final type. That is why a single point can matter.
Power by Generation
In Generation III to V, Hidden Power also had variable base power. The second lowest bit of each IV controlled that value. The final power ranged from 30 to 70. In later games, Hidden Power used fixed 60 power. This page lets you compare both rule sets.
Battle Use
Hidden Power Ice was often used against Dragon, Flying, Grass, and Ground targets. Hidden Power Fire helped special attackers punish Steel and Grass foes. Hidden Power Ground could threaten Electric, Fire, Poison, Rock, and Steel opponents. These choices depended on team needs. A good type covered a real weakness.
Advanced Inputs
The calculator also estimates damage. It uses level, Special Attack, target Special Defense, same type bonus, effectiveness, items, and field boosts. This is not a full battle simulator. It is a planning estimate. It helps compare spreads before breeding, training, or building a team.
Practical Advice
Start with your desired Hidden Power type. Then test several IV spreads. Try to keep important stats high. Speed and Special Attack usually matter most for special attackers. Some spreads lower Attack to reduce confusion damage. Others protect Speed ties. Use the table, exports, and notes to document the best spread.
FAQs
What does this calculator find?
It finds Hidden Power type from six IV values. It also estimates power for older games and fixed power for later games.
Which IVs are required?
You need HP, Attack, Defense, Speed, Special Attack, and Special Defense IVs. Each value should be between 0 and 31.
Why does one IV change the type?
The type formula uses whether each IV is even or odd. Changing one IV can change that parity and alter the final type.
Why is power different by generation?
Generation III to V used variable power. Later games used fixed 60 power, so the same IVs can keep type but not change power.
Is this a full damage calculator?
No. It gives a useful estimate. It does not include every battle rule, ability, weather, critical hit, random roll, or screen modifier.
What is Hidden Power Ice used for?
Hidden Power Ice is often chosen for coverage against Dragon, Flying, Grass, and Ground targets in older competitive formats.
Can I export the result?
Yes. Use the CSV button for spreadsheet data. Use the PDF button for a simple saved report of the current result.
Does nature affect Hidden Power type?
No. Nature does not change Hidden Power type. It only affects the optional Special Attack estimate and damage estimate.
