Example Data Table

Attack Type Defender Type One Defender Type Two Type Multiplier Meaning
Fire Grass Steel 4x Double super effective
Electric Water Flying 4x Double super effective
Ground Flying None 0x No effect
Dragon Fairy None 0x No effect
Water Rock Ground 4x Double super effective

Formula Used

The calculator multiplies the attack type value against each defender type. A missing chart value is treated as neutral. The advanced score then adds STAB and optional battle multipliers.

Type Multiplier = Type One Value × Type Two Value. Weighted Attack Score = Move Power × Type Multiplier × STAB × Item or Ability Multiplier × Field Multiplier.

How To Use This Calculator

Select the move attack type first. Choose the defender type or both defender types. Turn on Tera defense only when that form is active. Enter move power and optional multipliers. Press the calculate button. The result appears above the form and below the header. Use CSV or PDF buttons to save the same result.

Pokemon Matchups In Simple Terms

A Pokemon battle often turns on one small choice. The move type must meet the defender type well. This calculator helps you check that choice before you act. It supports single types, dual types, optional Tera defense, STAB, and extra battle multipliers. You can use it for team building, raid planning, or quick friendly matches.

Why Type Advantage Matters

Type advantage is a fast way to raise pressure. A Fire move can punish Grass. An Electric move can fail against Ground. A dual type can also change the answer. For example, a Water and Flying defender takes strong Electric damage. The same defender may resist Fighting. The final multiplier can be zero, one quarter, one half, neutral, double, or four times. This makes planning useful.

Advanced Options

The calculator adds more than a basic chart. You can include move power. You can apply normal STAB. You can also test Adaptability style STAB. Extra fields allow item, ability, weather, terrain, or raid modifiers. These fields do not replace the official damage formula. They give a clean planning score. The score shows how hard the selected move may press the target, before random damage rolls and stats.

Good Use Cases

Use the tool when comparing coverage moves. Try several attacking types against the same defender. Save the best rows with CSV export. Print a simple PDF when sharing a plan. The example table shows common cases, but your own inputs matter more. For ranked play, check abilities and immunities carefully. For story play, the result can guide faster progress.

Limitations

A type chart cannot predict every battle. Stats, level, ability, accuracy, priority, speed, shields, and field effects still matter. Some abilities can cancel weaknesses. Some moves ignore normal rules. Tera also changes defensive typing when active. Treat this calculator as a matchup guide. Then combine the result with real battle context and smart switching.

Practical Team Notes

Strong teams carry answers for common threats. A result of two times is helpful, but repeat coverage can waste slots. Balance super effective moves with safe neutral moves. Check weaknesses from both sides. A move that beats one foe may invite another. Good planning keeps options open during long battles.

FAQs

What does 4x effectiveness mean?

It means the attack is strong against both defender types. This is often called double super effective damage.

What does 0x effectiveness mean?

It means the attack has no effect because one defender type is immune to that attack type.

Does this replace the full damage formula?

No. It gives matchup and planning scores. Real damage also uses stats, level, random rolls, abilities, items, and field effects.

How does dual typing work?

The calculator multiplies the attack result against both defender types. A weakness and resistance can cancel to neutral.

What is STAB?

STAB means same type attack bonus. It usually applies when the user shares the move type.

How should I use the item multiplier?

Use it for effects that raise or lower move strength. Keep it at 1 when no such effect applies.

What happens when Tera defense is active?

The calculator uses the selected Tera type as the defensive type. It replaces the normal defender type setup.

Can I save my result?

Yes. Submit the form with the CSV or PDF button. The tool exports the current calculated matchup.
