Calculator Inputs

Example Data Table

This sample uses Pikachu at level 50 with zero stat experience and perfect direct DVs.

Pokemon Level Base HP Base Attack Base Defense Base Speed Base Special Observed HP Observed Attack Observed Defense Observed Speed Observed Special
Pikachu 50 35 55 30 90 50 110 75 50 110 70

Formula Used

The calculator tests every DV from 0 to 15. It uses Generation One stat rules.

Effort term: floor(floor(sqrt(Stat Experience)) / 4)

Non-HP stat: floor(((((Base + DV) * 2) + Effort Term) * Level) / 100) + 5

HP stat: floor(((((Base + HP DV) * 2) + Effort Term) * Level) / 100) + Level + 10

HP DV: 8 times Attack bit, plus 4 times Defense bit, plus 2 times Speed bit, plus Special bit.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Select a preset species or enter custom base stats.
  2. Enter the exact level shown on the stat screen.
  3. Enter observed HP, Attack, Defense, Speed, and Special.
  4. Add stat experience values when known.
  5. Press the calculate button.
  6. Review possible DV ranges and matching combinations.
  7. Use CSV or PDF export for records.

About Pokemon Yellow DV Checking

Pokemon Yellow uses DVs to shape each stat. DVs are early individual values. They range from zero to fifteen. Attack, Defense, Speed, and Special have direct DVs. HP is different. It is built from the lowest bit of those four values.

Why Accurate Inputs Matter

A clean calculation needs menu stats. It should not use temporary battle boosts. The level must match the stat screen. Base stats must match the species. Stat experience also matters. Older games track effort by stat experience, not modern effort points. Low effort often makes many DV sets possible. Higher effort can narrow the answer.

What This Tool Does

This calculator checks every valid DV from zero to fifteen. It compares the generated stat with your observed stat. It then joins valid Attack, Defense, Speed, and Special values. Each joined set creates a derived HP DV. The tool keeps only combinations that also match the observed HP. This gives a practical result set, not a single forced guess.

Using Results in Play

Use the range summary first. It shows whether a stat can be weak, average, or strong. Then review the matching combinations. A single row means the data is exact. Many rows mean more levels, more battles, or more stat experience details are needed. Rare Candies can help because they change level without adding effort.

Exporting and Recording

Save the CSV file when you want a spreadsheet record. Use the PDF file for simple sharing. Keep the species, level, and effort values with every result. That makes later checks easier. If a later level gives different ranges, update the inputs and compare again.

Best Practice

Check stats outside battle. Remove badge boost confusion. Enter known stat experience when available. If it is unknown, try zero first, then test likely higher values. The calculator is meant for careful checking, team planning, and classic save analysis.

Common Limits

Some inputs still leave wide ranges. This is normal at low levels. Small stat changes can hide several DVs. Trade evolutions and vitamins may also change assumptions. Record each change before testing again. Clean notes prevent mixed data. When unsure, calculate with conservative effort first. Then refine after more confirmed battles or levels.

FAQs

What is a DV in Pokemon Yellow?

A DV is an early hidden stat value. It ranges from 0 to 15. Higher values usually create stronger final stats.

Can this calculator find one exact DV set?

Yes, when the inputs are specific enough. Low levels or unknown stat experience may leave several possible combinations.

Why is HP DV calculated differently?

Generation One derives HP DV from the lowest bits of Attack, Defense, Speed, and Special DVs.

Should I use battle stats?

No. Use menu stats outside battle. Temporary boosts can make the calculator reject valid DV combinations.

What should I enter for unknown stat experience?

Enter zero first. Then test likely higher values if the Pokemon has battled or used vitamins.

Does this tool use modern IV rules?

No. It follows classic Yellow stat rules. Modern IVs, natures, and EV systems are not used.

Why do I get no matching result?

One or more inputs may be wrong. Check level, base stats, observed stats, and stat experience values.

What do the export buttons do?

The CSV button saves spreadsheet rows. The PDF button saves a compact report with the main result summary.
