This calculator uses the Pandolf loaded walking model. It estimates metabolic power from body mass, ruck load, speed, grade, and terrain.

M = 1.5W + 2(W + L)(L/W)^2 + n(W + L)(1.5V^2 + 0.35VG)

M is metabolic power in watts. W is body weight in kilograms. L is load in kilograms. V is walking speed in meters per second. G is grade percent. n is the terrain factor.

Calories are calculated as kcal = watts × seconds ÷ 4186.8. Rest calories are estimated with a light-rest metabolic value.
