The calculator estimates the filled void around an embedded rod. It uses the drilled hole area, rod area, embedment depth, extra bottom pocket, fill percent, waste percent, nozzle loss, and cartridge yield.

Hole area: π × hole diameter² ÷ 4

Rod area: π × rod diameter² ÷ 4

Embedment annular volume: (hole area − rod area) × embedment depth

Extra pocket volume: hole area × extra hole depth

Total required: base volume + waste allowance + nozzle waste

Cartridges: ceiling of base volume with waste ÷ usable cartridge volume

Extra hole depth is the pocket drilled beyond the embedded rod tip. It is calculated as a full cylinder because the rod does not occupy that space.

What waste percentage should I use?

Use a higher waste percentage for rough holes, overhead work, cold material, long pauses, or inexperienced crews. A lower value may fit controlled repetitive work.

Why does the cartridge count round up?

You cannot normally buy a fraction of a cartridge. The calculator rounds up so the estimated material order is not short.
