Plan a Better Grange Display

Why Grange Planning Matters

The Stardew Valley fair rewards planning more than rare items alone. A grange display receives points from four parts. You get base points. You gain or lose points from the number of displayed items. You earn a diversity bonus from recognized categories. Each item also scores from sell price and quality.

Use All Nine Spaces

A strong entry normally uses all nine spaces. Empty spaces hurt the total, so a low value item can be better than a blank slot. The category bonus is also important. The fair recognizes animal products, artisan goods, cooking, fish, foraging, fruits, minerals, and vegetables. Only six categories are needed for the full diversity bonus. After that, extra categories are useful only when the item itself scores well.

Watch Price and Quality

Price and quality decide the item score. Higher quality gives a better column in the scoring table. Higher actual sell price moves the item down the threshold rows. This calculator lets you enter base price, quality, profit margin, and profession bonus. It also gives a manual actual price field for exact values. Use that field when a mod, profession, or special item changes the final sell amount.

Read the Result Carefully

The result panel separates every part of the score. You can see base points, item count points, category points, item points, placement, tokens, and points needed for first place. This makes weak spots easy to find. If the category bonus is low, replace duplicate categories. If item points are low, choose higher value or higher quality goods. If item count points are low, fill more slots.

Save and Compare Plans

Use the CSV export when you want a spreadsheet record. Use the PDF button when you want a printable fair plan. The example table below shows how mixed items can reach a strong score without every item being perfect. For best results, prepare before Fall 16. Keep one item from several skills. Save gold and iridium goods when possible. Check the final score before judging. Then collect your items after the contest, because the fair will not place them back in your inventory automatically. A balanced plan also helps early farms. You may not own iridium crops yet, but you can still win with variety, steady prices, and full slots. Review replacements calmly before judging day finally arrives.

FAQs

What score is needed for first place?

You need at least 90 points for first place. The calculator shows your total score and how many more points are needed if you are below that target.

How many items should I use?

Use all nine slots when possible. Empty slots reduce the item count score. Even a weak item may help more than leaving a blank space.

How many categories are best?

Six unique recognized categories give the full category bonus. More than six categories can still help, but only through each item's own score.

Do duplicate categories lose points?

Duplicate categories do not directly lose points. They simply do not add another diversity bonus after that category has already been counted.

Why is there a manual actual price field?

The contest uses actual sell price. Manual price helps when a special item, setting, profession, or mod changes the final value.

What happens with Lucky Purple Shorts?

Including Mayor Lewis's Lucky Purple Shorts causes a special disqualification result. The calculator shows that reward separately from normal placement.

Can minerals and cooked food win?

Yes. They help category diversity and may add solid item points. However, many high quality goods from other categories can score higher.

Does this save my items?

No. This only calculates a plan. In the game, remember to collect your items after judging so they are not left behind.
