Formula Used

Courses = wall height in inches ÷ (unit height + joint thickness).

Units per course = wall length in inches ÷ (unit length + joint thickness).

Bed joint volume = courses × wall length × joint thickness × wall depth.

Head joint volume = courses × head joints × joint thickness × unit height × wall depth.

Adjusted mortar = (bed joint volume + head joint volume) × opening factor × waste factor.

Bags needed = adjusted mortar volume ÷ bag yield, rounded up.

Type S field mix parts = 1 cement + 0.5 lime + 4.5 sand. Dry ingredient volume = adjusted wet volume × dry factor.
