Formula Used

Completed lines: Count each row, column, and diagonal where all four cells are selected.

Total possible finishes: C(16 - n, 9 - n), where n is the number of current stickers.

Probability for a line result: matching final layouts divided by all possible final layouts.

Target chance: P(lines ≥ target) = sum of probabilities from the target line count through three lines.

Chance across shuffles: 1 - (1 - p)a, where p is target chance and a is planned attempts.

Expected value: completion value + Σ(probability of each line result × reward value for that result).

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Mark every sticker cell that already appears in your journal.
  2. Choose your target line result, such as two or three lines.
  3. Enter planned shuffle attempts and point cost.
  4. Add reward values using gil, tokens, or your own score.
  5. Press the calculate button and review the result above the form.
  6. Use the CSV or PDF button to save your report.

Wondrous Tails Planning Guide

A Wondrous Tails journal looks simple, yet the grid creates many outcomes. Each sticker can change the value of a weekly book. This calculator helps you read that grid before you spend more time, points, or duties. It turns visible sticker positions into chances for zero, one, two, or three reward lines.

Why Probability Matters

The journal uses a four by four board. A line needs four marked squares in a row, column, or diagonal. Since the final journal uses nine stickers, the same number of stickers can produce very different results. A neat cluster may look promising, but an open diagonal can sometimes carry more value. The tool checks every possible remaining placement, so the result is not a guess.

Reroll and Goal Planning

Many players decide whether to keep a layout or shuffle it. This decision is easier when a target is clear. Set your goal to one, two, or three lines. Then enter planned shuffle attempts and point cost. The calculator estimates the chance of reaching that target at least once across those attempts. It also shows the expected number of attempts when the current chance is above zero.

Reward Value Method

Rewards can differ by character, market, patch, and personal need. For that reason, the form lets you enter your own values for completion, one line, two lines, and three lines. These values may be gil estimates, token scores, or any custom rating. The expected value combines those rewards with the probability of each final result.

Best Next Cell Insight

The next cell table is a planning aid. It ranks empty squares by projected value if the next sticker lands there. The journal does not let you choose the square directly. Still, this view shows whether the current board has strong paths or weak paths. It can help you judge if another shuffle is worth trying.

Practical Use

Enter every sticker you already have. Keep reward values realistic. Compare the target chance with your available points and time. If the target chance is tiny, save resources. If the target chance is strong, continue carefully.

Review the table after each new sticker. Small changes can shift every path, especially near seven placed stickers.

FAQs

What does this calculator estimate?

It estimates final line probabilities from your selected sticker cells. It also checks target odds, expected reward value, planned shuffle impact, and possible next-cell strength.

Can it guarantee three lines?

No. The journal uses random sticker placement. This tool only measures possible outcomes from the current board and shows how rare or strong each path is.

Why can I enter reward values?

Rewards can have different value for each player. Custom values let you use gil, market estimates, personal scores, or priority ratings for comparison.

What means three or more lines?

The reward tier is capped at three lines. The calculator groups any layout with three or more completed lines into that top category.

Should I select all sixteen cells?

No. Select only stickers currently shown in your journal. The calculator accepts nine or fewer because the final journal uses nine placed stickers.

What is the best next cell table?

It ranks empty cells by projected target chance and value if the next sticker appears there. It is for analysis, not direct control.

How are shuffle attempts handled?

The tool applies repeated chance math. It estimates the chance of hitting your target at least once across your planned attempts.

Can I export my result?

Yes. After calculation, use the CSV button for spreadsheet data or the PDF button for a compact report you can save.
