Everyman 2 4h 30m 2 x 20m 5h 10m Reduced daily rest planning
Everyman 3 3h 00m 3 x 20m 4h 00m Strict nap timing practice
Dual Core 1 3h 30m + 1h 30m 1 x 20m 5h 20m Split night sleep testing

Formula Used

The calculator adds every core sleep block and every nap block. Total sleep equals core sleep minutes plus nap count multiplied by nap duration. Daily awake time equals 1,440 minutes minus total sleep. Sleep difference equals calculated daily sleep minus your selected baseline sleep. The schedule builder then spreads sleep blocks across one day. It uses an equal awake gap between each block.

Total Sleep = Core Sleep Total + Nap Count × Nap Duration

Awake Time = 1,440 − Total Sleep

Planning Difference = Daily Difference × Selected Days

How to Use This Calculator

Select a known pattern or choose custom. Enter the first sleep start time. Add custom core and nap values only when using custom mode. Set your baseline sleep to compare the plan with your normal routine. Press calculate. Review the result above the form. Export the schedule if you need a saved record.

Polyphasic Sleep Schedule Planning Guide

A polyphasic sleep schedule divides rest into several blocks. These blocks may include one main core sleep and several short naps. Some plans use two cores. Some use only naps. The goal is to place sleep across the day with clear timing.

Why Timing Matters

Timing is the hardest part of any split sleep plan. A missed nap can make the next wake block harder. A late core can move the whole routine forward. This calculator helps by showing each planned sleep block. It also shows the next awake period. That makes the day easier to review before you try it.

Core Sleep and Naps

Core sleep is the longer rest period. It usually anchors the schedule. Naps are shorter blocks. They are often twenty minutes. Longer naps may include more sleep stages. Short naps may reduce grogginess for some people. The best plan depends on health, work, travel, and family needs.

Reading the Results

The daily sleep total is the most important number. Compare it with your normal baseline. A large sleep reduction can affect alertness. It can also affect mood and performance. The cycle estimate divides total sleep by ninety minutes. This is only a rough guide. Real sleep cycles vary by person.

Health and Safety

Use this tool for planning only. It does not diagnose sleep needs. It does not replace medical care. Avoid driving or risky work when sleepy. Stop any plan that causes strong fatigue. People with medical conditions should ask a qualified professional first. Sleep quality matters as much as schedule design.

Practical Planning Tips

Start with realistic duties. Place naps where interruptions are unlikely. Keep the same start times daily. Track energy after each block. Review the CSV or PDF record. Adjust slowly when needed. A schedule that looks efficient on paper still needs safe daily testing.

FAQs

What is a polyphasic sleep schedule?

It is a sleep pattern split into multiple daily rest blocks. It may include core sleep, naps, or both. The total rest time depends on the selected pattern.

Is polyphasic sleep safe for everyone?

No. Some people may feel worse with reduced or split sleep. Medical conditions, shift work, pregnancy, and safety duties can change sleep needs.

What is core sleep?

Core sleep is the main longer sleep block. It usually provides the strongest anchor for the schedule and supports recovery better than brief naps alone.

How are awake windows calculated?

The calculator subtracts total sleep from one day. It then divides the remaining awake time between planned sleep blocks evenly.

Can I use custom sleep blocks?

Yes. Select custom. Then enter up to three core blocks, nap count, and nap duration. The calculator builds a daily timeline from those values.

Why compare against baseline sleep?

Baseline comparison shows whether the new plan gives more or less sleep than your normal routine. It helps reveal possible sleep debt.

What does the PDF include?

The PDF includes the selected schedule, daily totals, baseline difference, cycle estimate, health note, and generated sleep timeline.

Should I follow the result exactly?

No. Treat it as a planning estimate. Adjust for health, energy, duties, and safety. Seek professional advice for ongoing sleep problems.
