Formula used

This planner uses a reference baseline, then applies practical adjustments from your selected conditions.

Reference total water = 3000 mL/day

Baseline drinks target = Reference total water × 0.80

Adjusted drinks target = Baseline drinks target + Activity adjustment + Climate adjustment + Symptom adjustment + Multiple pregnancy adjustment + Weight adjustment − Food moisture credit

Suggested plain water = Adjusted drinks target × 0.75

Hydration difference = Adjusted drinks target − Current plain water − Current other fluids

The activity, climate, symptom, and food adjustments are planner estimates for daily use. They are not diagnostic thresholds.

Frequently asked questions

1) Does this calculator replace medical advice?

No. It is a planning tool for estimating daily fluid goals. Personal advice from your obstetric clinician should come first, especially if you have vomiting, swelling, kidney issues, blood pressure concerns, or any fluid restriction instructions.

2) Do other drinks count toward hydration?

Yes. The calculator lets you enter other fluids because many drinks contribute to hydration. Plain water is still shown separately because it is a simple baseline, easy to track, and usually the easiest option to adjust.

3) Why does climate change the result?

Warmer or more humid conditions can raise sweat losses and make steady intake more important. The climate setting adds a planning buffer so your target reflects a day that may feel more dehydrating than a cool indoor day.

4) Why does activity affect the target?

Movement can increase sweat and breathing losses. Even light routines can add up over a full day. The planner increases the target gradually, which helps you pace fluids rather than waiting until you feel very thirsty.

5) Why include water-rich foods?

Foods such as fruit, soups, yogurt, and vegetables can contribute moisture. This tool gives a small credit for those foods, but it keeps the credit limited so the drinks target still stays practical and easy to follow.

6) What if nausea makes drinking difficult?

Try frequent small sips instead of large drinks. Cold water, ice chips, or mild flavors may feel easier. If you cannot keep fluids down, or symptoms are worsening, you should contact your healthcare team promptly.

7) Why is plain water lower than total drinks?

The planner separates a plain-water goal from total drinks because some hydration may come from milk, soups, or other beverages. That keeps the result flexible while still showing a strong plain-water target you can aim for.

8) When should I seek urgent help?

Seek prompt medical care if you cannot keep fluids down, feel faint, have very dark urine, urinate much less than usual, or have worsening symptoms. A calculator cannot assess dehydration severity or pregnancy complications safely.

Important: This calculator is for education and routine planning only. Severe vomiting, dizziness, very low urine output, confusion, or concerns about swelling or medical conditions need direct clinical advice.
