Example Data Table

Student MCQ Correct FRQ 1 FRQ 2 FRQ 3 Composite Estimate Estimated AP Score
Practice A 48 / 60 6 / 7 5 / 7 6 / 7 80.48% 5
Practice B 39 / 60 4 / 7 5 / 7 4 / 7 63.10% 4
Practice C 31 / 60 3 / 7 4 / 7 3 / 7 49.60% 2

Formula Used

MCQ percentage = MCQ correct ÷ total MCQ questions × 100.

FRQ percentage = total FRQ points earned ÷ total FRQ points possible × 100.

Weighted MCQ score = MCQ percentage × MCQ weight ÷ 100.

Weighted FRQ score = FRQ percentage × FRQ weight ÷ 100.

Composite score = weighted MCQ score + weighted FRQ score.

The final AP score is estimated by comparing the composite score with editable score thresholds.

AP Human Geography Score Planning Guide

Why Score Estimates Matter

An AP Human Geography score estimate helps students turn practice results into a clear study plan. The exam includes multiple choice questions and free response questions. Each section measures different skills. Multiple choice work checks speed, vocabulary, map reading, and concept recognition. Free response work checks explanation, evidence, examples, and geographic reasoning. A calculator gives both sections a shared composite score. That makes practice results easier to compare.

Understanding the Composite Score

The composite score is not the official AP score. It is a useful estimate. The tool converts raw answers into percentages. It then applies section weights. The default weights use an even split between multiple choice and free response work. You can change those weights for class tests. You can also adjust score thresholds. This helps when teachers use different curves.

Using Results for Study

A low multiple choice percentage may show weak content recall. Review population, migration, culture, politics, agriculture, cities, and development. A low free response score may show weak writing structure. Practice task verbs. Define terms clearly. Use specific examples. Link every example to the question. Short daily review often works better than one long session.

Improving Future Practice Scores

Save each result as a CSV file. Compare scores across weeks. Look for patterns. If free response points stay low, write timed answers. If multiple choice points stay low, build topic flashcards. Use the chart to see how close you are to each score band. Retake older practice sets after review. Growth becomes easier to measure when every attempt is tracked.

FAQs

1. Is this calculator official?

No. It gives an estimate only. Official AP scores are assigned after exam scoring and yearly scaling decisions.

2. What is a composite score?
