Gross area = length × width or height × matching sections.

Net area = gross area − openings and gaps.

Ordered area = net area × (1 + waste percentage ÷ 100).

Packages needed = ceiling(ordered area ÷ package coverage).

Nominal final R = current R + product R per layer × layers.

Effective R = 1 ÷ [(framing fraction ÷ framing R) + (insulated fraction ÷ nominal final R)].

Heat loss = area × temperature difference ÷ R value.

Total cost = material cost + labor cost + tax or markup.
