Formula Used

1) Percent from Part and Total

Percent of Total = (Part ÷ Total) × 100

Use this when you already know the selected amount and the whole amount.

2) Value from Percentage and Total

Part = (Percentage ÷ 100) × Total

Use this when the share rate is known and you want the actual value.

3) Total from Part and Percentage

Total = Part ÷ (Percentage ÷ 100)

Use this when a known amount represents a known share of the whole.

4) Category Distribution

Category Share = (Category Value ÷ Sum of Values) × 100

Use this for multiple categories such as departments, channels, items, or regions.

FAQs

1) What does percent of total mean?

It shows how large one value is compared with the whole. The result is expressed as a percentage, making comparisons easier across budgets, counts, quantities, scores, and category shares.

2) Can the part be larger than the total?

Yes. The calculator still works and returns a percentage above 100%. In that situation, the remainder becomes negative, which indicates the part exceeds the supplied total.

3) Why would I use the total from percentage mode?

Use it when you know an amount and its share of the whole. For example, if 30 units represent 15%, the mode can reconstruct the original total quickly and accurately.

4) What is the benchmark percentage for?

The benchmark helps compare your calculated share against a target or expected rate. The report shows the gap in percentage points, making performance reviews easier.

5) How does the batch distribution option help?

It analyzes several categories at once. You can see each category’s contribution to the combined total, identify the largest share, and visualize the pattern in a chart.

6) Does the calculator support decimals?

Yes. All main numeric fields accept decimal values, and you can choose up to eight decimal places for the final output depending on your reporting needs.

7) What does the CSV export include?

The CSV export includes the summary result table and, when available, the category breakdown table. It is useful for spreadsheet analysis, record keeping, or sharing results.

8) When should I use a pie chart versus a bar chart?

Use a pie chart for simple share composition when values are nonnegative. Use a bar chart when you want easier category comparison or when one value exceeds the total.
