Picture Made of Triangles Similar Triangle Calculator

Analyze triangle pictures through side ratios and scale factors. Estimate lengths, perimeters, and areas quickly. Turn visual clues into dependable similar triangle answers today.

Calculator

Enter at least one matching side pair. Leave other matching sides blank to solve them automatically.

Example Data Table

Reference A Reference B Reference C Picture A Picture B Picture C Scale Factor Area Ratio
3 4 5 6 8 10 2 4
5 12 13 7.5 18 19.5 1.5 2.25
8 15 17 4 7.5 8.5 0.5 0.25

Formula Used

For similar triangles, corresponding sides stay proportional.

When a picture is built from triangle patterns, these formulas help recover missing lengths from a single matching side pair.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter known side lengths for the reference triangle.
  2. Enter at least one matching side for the picture triangle.
  3. Leave unknown matching sides blank.
  4. Click the calculate button.
  5. Read the solved sides, perimeter ratio, and area ratio.
  6. Use the graph to compare both triangle sizes visually.
  7. Download the results as CSV or PDF if needed.

FAQs

1) What does this calculator solve?

It solves missing sides for similar triangles using proportional matching sides. It also estimates scale factor, perimeter ratio, area ratio, and picture enlargement or reduction.

2) Do I need every side length?

No. You only need one matching side pair to set the scale factor. Any other corresponding side can then be solved automatically if its partner is known.

3) Can I use decimals?

Yes. The calculator accepts decimal values, which helps when measuring sides from scaled pictures, diagrams, screenshots, floor plans, or printed geometry exercises.

4) Why are perimeter and area ratios different?

Perimeter changes directly with the scale factor. Area changes with the square of the scale factor. A triangle doubled in side length has twice the perimeter but four times the area.

5) What if my side pairs disagree?

That usually means the triangles are not perfectly similar, the measurements were rounded, or matching sides were paired incorrectly. The calculator shows a warning and uses an average ratio.

6) Can this help with picture puzzles?

Yes. It is useful for geometry pictures made from repeating triangles, classroom worksheets, puzzle diagrams, scaled drawings, and visual similarity questions.

7) Does it check whether triangles are valid?

Yes. When all three sides of a triangle become available, the code checks triangle inequality. This helps catch impossible side combinations before you trust the result.

8) Can I save or print the result?

Yes. Use the CSV button for spreadsheet work and the PDF button for reports, printouts, classroom sharing, or documenting solved triangle measurements.
