QUICKI = 1 ÷ [log10(fasting insulin) + log10(fasting glucose in mg/dL)]
McAuley index = exp[2.63 − 0.28 × ln(fasting insulin) − 0.31 × ln(triglycerides in mmol/L)]
Matsuda index = 10,000 ÷ √[(fasting glucose × fasting insulin) × (mean OGTT glucose × mean OGTT insulin)]

1) What does this calculator estimate?
It estimates several surrogate insulin sensitivity or resistance indices from fasting labs and optional OGTT data. These scores help summarize patterns, but they do not replace clinical interpretation.
2) Why are there multiple indices?
Each index uses different inputs and reflects a different view of metabolism. HOMA-IR and QUICKI focus on fasting data, McAuley adds triglycerides, and Matsuda uses post-load OGTT dynamics.
3) Which score is better for whole-body sensitivity?
Matsuda is often used when OGTT glucose and insulin values are available because it captures fasting and post-load behavior together. It is still a surrogate, not a direct clamp test.
4) Can I use mmol/L instead of mg/dL?
Yes. The calculator converts glucose and triglycerides internally. Select the correct units first, then enter the measured values exactly as reported by the laboratory.
5) What if I do not have OGTT values?
You can still calculate HOMA-IR, QUICKI, and McAuley with fasting inputs. The Matsuda index will remain unavailable until at least one matched post-load glucose and insulin pair is entered.
6) Are the interpretation bands universal?
No. Thresholds vary by study design, ethnicity, age, puberty, pregnancy status, and assay method. Use them as general screening guidance only, never as a stand-alone diagnosis.
7) Why can medications affect the score?
Insulin, steroids, some diabetes medicines, acute illness, and non-fasting samples can shift glucose, insulin, and lipid values. That can change the calculated indices substantially.
8) Should I compare scores across different labs?
Compare cautiously. Different assay methods and calibration standards may influence insulin measurements. Trends are most meaningful when tests are collected under similar conditions and reviewed clinically.
